Jianmin Qu is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Tufts University's School of Engineering. He currently serves as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at Stevens Institute of Technology. Previously, he was Dean of the Tufts School of Engineering (2015–2021) and Karol Family Professor, as well as Walter P. Murphy Professor and Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Northwestern University (2009–2015). His career began at Georgia Institute of Technology (1989–2009).
Education: Ph.D. and M.S. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Northwestern University; B.S. from Jilin University, China.
Research focuses on micromechanics of composites, interfacial fracture, solder alloy damage, microelectronic packaging reliability, solid oxide fuel cells, battery defects, and ultrasonic material evaluation. His work is sponsored by NSF, DoD agencies, DOE, and industry leaders like Motorola, Ford, IBM, and Intel.

Leadership roles include department chairmanship, deanship, and current provostship. Research output includes numerous peer-reviewed publications in mechanics and materials science.
