Jianing Han is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of South Alabama, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on quantum phenomena in cold atoms, van der Waals interactions, and few-body systems. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and B.S./M.S. degrees from Hebei University.
Education:
- Ph.D., University of Virginia
- M.S. & B.S., Hebei University
Research Interests: Investigating microscopic phase transitions through Rydberg atoms at ultra-low temperatures (~0.3 mK). Key areas include repulsive van der Waals interactions, creation of van der Waals molecules (dimers, trimers), and light-atom interactions. Techniques involve laser cooling, magneto-optical trapping, and Rydberg state excitations.
Lab & Opportunities: The Han Research Lab explores van der Waals interactions and cold atom physics. A postdoc position is currently available. Research is supported by experimental setups using diode lasers and ring cavities.
Advising: Open to mentoring curiosity-driven students interested in atomic/molecular physics and quantum systems.
