Jianghu (James) Dong, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Public Health and concurrently holds an Assistant Professor role in the UNMC College of Medicine’s Department of Internal Medicine Division of Nephrology. He joined UNMC in 2019, following prior research roles at the BC Renal Agency, BC Transplant, and academic appointments at the University of British Columbia, University of Alberta, and Wenzhou Medical University.
Dr. Dong earned his PhD in Statistics from Simon Fraser University in 2018, followed by an MSc from the University of Alberta (2005) and earlier degrees in statistics and mathematics from Renmin University of China (2003) and Beijing Normal University (1997).
His research focuses on developing statistical methodologies to address clinical challenges in diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and kidney transplantation. Key areas include functional data analysis, longitudinal and survival analysis, joint modeling, clinical trials, and cost-effectiveness analysis. His work bridges biostatistical innovation with practical applications in nephrology and transplantation medicine.
Dr. Dong has contributed to over 50 peer-reviewed publications, with recent work emphasizing pandemic estimation methodologies, long-COVID risk factors, and organ transplantation outcomes. His affiliations with the UNMC Department of Biostatistics and the Division of Nephrology position him at the intersection of advanced statistical research and clinical practice.
