Jian Yang

Dr. Jian Yang is a Lecturer in Structural Engineering at the University of Birmingham's School of Civil Engineering since 2005. He serves as Course Convenor for the MSC Civil Engineering program. His expertise spans sustainable construction materials, including FRP, light gauge steel, recycled materials, and structural insulated panels (SIPs). He has secured EPSRC CASE awards and led industry-funded projects. Dr. Yang holds a PhD from the University of Leeds and prior industry experience at the University of Bath and Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Education: BEng (Civil Engineering) and MEng (Structural Engineering) from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, PhD (Structural Engineering) from the University of Leeds. Professional memberships include the Concrete Society, IABSE, and Society of Glass Technology. Research focuses on green materials, numerical modeling (FEM/DEM), and robustness of emerging structures.

His research interests include: sustainable construction materials, light gauge steel structures, glass engineering, and FRP applications. Over 30 peer-reviewed publications highlight his work on material properties, structural behavior analysis, and failure mechanisms. He actively collaborates with industry on projects like SIPs development and recycled aggregate concrete studies.
