Jesús Colprim Galceran

Dr Jesús Colprim Galceran is a full University Professor (Catedràtic d’Universitat) of Chemical Engineering at the University of Girona (UdG). He is affiliated with the Department of Chemical, Agricultural and Agri-Food Technology Engineering and leads the LEQUIA research group within the Institute of the Environment. Since completing his PhD in 1998 he has accumulated more than 30 years of research experience.

Research interests

His work focuses on the treatment of urban and industrial wastewaters, with particular emphasis on nutrient management. Core topics include autotrophic nitrogen removal technologies (partial nitritation–anammox), bio-electrochemical denitrification processes, CO₂ conversion to methane for biogas upgrading, and the recovery of phosphorus and potassium from waste streams.

Grants, projects and advising

He has served as principal investigator of more than 31 competitive research and knowledge-transfer projects, four of them international. His group has attracted over 65 industry contracts and has been awarded 8 patents. Under his supervision 19 doctoral theses have been defended.

Laboratory, teams and affiliation

He directs the LEQUIA group (Laboratori d’Enginyeria Química i Ambiental) which is housed within the Institute of the Environment at the University of Girona. LEQUIA maintains cutting-edge experimental facilities for biological nutrient removal, bio-electrochemical systems, and pilot-scale reactor testing.
