Jesus Rivera is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Astronomy at Swarthmore College and a Consortium for Faculty Diversity Postdoctoral Fellow. He earned his Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, focusing on dusty star-forming galaxies (DSFGs) under Dr. Andrew Baker, and conducted undergraduate research on gravitational wave detection with Dr. Fredrick Jenet at the University of Texas at Brownsville.
- Research Focus: Physical properties of high-redshift DSFGs using carbon monoxide (CO) lines and gravitational lensing to study cosmic star formation history.
- Outreach & Engagement: Physics demonstrations at Camden Street Elementary School, graduate student panels for Aresty and McNair programs, member of AAS Astronomy Ambassadors, and co-organizer of the STEM Community Outreach Symposium (STEMcosR) at Rutgers.
- Telescope Experience: Worked with Atacama Cosmology Telescope, Green Bank Telescope (GBT), NOEMA, VLA, CARMA, and Submillimeter Array (SMA).
- Science Policy: Participated in Congressional Visits Day sponsored by the American Astronomical Society, advocating for scientific community needs.
Hobbies: Deep space astrophotography using mirrorless cameras, playing guitar, soccer, cycling, and running.
