Jesus Montoya Juarez is an Associate Professor of Latin American Literature in the Department of Spanish Literature, Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Murcia. His research examines intersections between literature, technology, media, and ecological crises within Iberian and Latin American contexts.
He earned his PhD in Latin American Literature from Universidad de Granada in 2008 with the thesis Realismos del simulacro imagen, medios y tecnología en la narrativa del Río de la Plata, supervised by Dr. Ángel Esteban del Campo. The thesis received the university's extraordinary award for outstanding doctoral research.
His research spans Latin American and Spanish literary traditions with specialized focus on narrative theory, media archaeology, and Anthropocene studies. Key publications include the monographs Narrativas del simulacro (EDITUM, 2013) and Mario Levrero para armar (Trilce, 2013), alongside 60+ articles analyzing technological mediation in contemporary literature. He currently leads the Antropolit research project investigating literature's response to ecological transformation.
His recognition includes the Extraordinary PhD Award. He serves as Director of the academic journal Monteagudo, advancing scholarly discourse in literary studies.
Montoya Juarez maintains active international collaboration through visiting positions at Sorbonne University, Duke University, Paul Valéry University Montpellier, University of Buenos Aires, and Universidad de la República (UDELAR). He contributes to the History and Theory of Literature research group and previously participated in the Grupo de Estudios de Literatura Española (Gelite).
