Jesus Gregorio Smith is a PhD candidate in Sociology at Texas A&M University (TAMU), where he also serves as a Lecturer. He holds an MA in Sociology (2012) and a BA in Psychology with a Philosophy minor (2012), both from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). His research focuses on intersections of race, gender, and sexuality in digital spaces, particularly examining how these dynamics influence sexual health practices and identity formation.
Smith’s work bridges sociology of gender, race studies, and digital cultures. He has explored topics such as racialized power dynamics in BDSM pornography, the eroticization of oppression, and systemic racism’s impact on online sexual desire. His research has been supported by a TAMU Diversity Fellowship, grants from Women and Gender Studies, and training opportunities at Northeastern University.
He has published in Porn Studies and contributed book chapters on cyber sexualities and identity. Smith actively engages with professional organizations like the American Sociological Association (ASA) and aims to pursue a professorship focused on advancing intersectional sociological research.
