Jessika Armbrüster serves as a Senior Scientist (without doctorate) at the Institute of Archaeology, University of Innsbruck, currently on maternity leave replacement for Dr. Birgit Öhlinger since December 2023. She is concurrently a doctoral candidate in the 'Entangled Antiquities' program since March 2022, researching rural settlement development in the Mediterranean from the 4th to 2nd centuries BC.
Her academic credentials include:
- Master's in Archaeology (Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology, University of Innsbruck 2018-2021)
- Bachelor's in Classica et Orientalia (Near Eastern Archaeology, University of Innsbruck 2015-2019)
- Bachelor's in Archaeology (Classical Archaeology, University of Innsbruck 2014-2018)
Armbrüster specializes in Mediterranean Hellenization processes, with concentrated research on 4th-1st century BC Sicilian urbanization, settlement morphologies, cultural appropriation of Greek elements, and ceramic analysis from southern Italian workshops. Her fieldwork spans excavations at Aguntum, Aramus, Khovle Gora, Cossyra, and Monte Iato.
She received the 2023 GO.INVESTIGATIO travel grant for research in Athens/Rome, plus University of Innsbruck scholarships in 2021 and 2018-2019. As doctoral student spokesperson (2022-2023) and member of the 'Archaeological Research in Sicily' working group, she contributes to collaborative projects including FWF-funded studies on Monte Iato.
