- Education: PhD from UC Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy
Her research examines three core areas: improving mental health outcomes for correctional workers, understanding how staff well-being affects service delivery, and developing policies to enhance well-being for impacted individuals and families. Her recent publications in journals like Criminal Justice & Behavior and Social Policy & Administration explore topics such as public perceptions of correctional officers, empathy interventions, and pandemic impacts on prisons.
Harney’s work employs experimental methods and public management frameworks to analyze correctional officer mindsets, peer support mechanisms, and policy feedback effects. She teaches graduate courses in program evaluation, criminology, and evidence-based decision-making, emphasizing quantitative research methods and health-justice integration.
