Jessie B. Ramey is the inaugural Director of the Women’s Institute and Associate Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at Chatham University. She holds a Ph.D. in History from Carnegie Mellon University (2009), along with earlier degrees from the same institution and Sarah Lawrence College. Her research focuses on gender, working families, and U.S. social policy, highlighted by her award-winning book Child Care in Black and White: Working Parents and the History of Orphanages. She has held roles at the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University’s Undergraduate Research Office, and philanthropic organizations like the New York Community Trust/Westchester Community Foundation.
