Jessica Viñas-Nelson is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Transformation at Arizona State University. Her research examines African American intellectual history and identity formation during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
She holds a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
Research interests center on historical debates within Black communities regarding interracial marriage, assimilation strategies, emigration movements, and concepts of racial extermination. Current work analyzes activist responses to miscegenation laws and racial politics.
