Jessica Lin, MD, MSCR is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She serves as principal investigator of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Ecology Lab (IDEEL) and maintains clinical practice in infectious diseases.
Her educational background includes:
- Undergraduate: Yale University
- Medical School: Baylor College of Medicine
- Residency: University of California San Diego
- Fellowship: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- MS in Clinical Research: UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health
Dr. Lin's research focuses on malaria transmission dynamics at the clinical-molecular interface, with current projects examining human-to-mosquito transmission determinants, Plasmodium ovale relapse patterns in East Africa, and imported malaria's role in Zanzibar transmission. Her 2020 SARS-CoV-2 household transmission study revealed disproportionate impacts on minority communities and viral load-transmission relationships. She maintains expertise in tropical medicine through fieldwork in Southeast Asia and East Africa.
As an NIH-funded physician-scientist, she mentors trainees in global health research while maintaining active clinical practice at UNC Faculty Physicians Center. Her lab IDEEL integrates molecular epidemiology with clinical studies to address pressing infectious disease challenges worldwide.
