Jessica G. Sandland is a Senior Lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), leading online learning initiatives within the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE). She specializes in developing MOOCs, blended learning strategies, and coordinating DMSE's online courses such as 3.086x, 3.032x, and 3.024x. She co-leads the Materials Initiative for Comprehensive Research Opportunity (MICRO) and pioneered MIT's first xMinor program on edX. Her research explores peer review efficacy, homework feedback mechanisms, and the role of humor in online education.
Education: PhD in Electronic Materials from MIT's DMSE. Prior roles include systems analyst at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and adjunct mathematics faculty at Lesley University.
Awards: 2019 MITx Prize for Teaching and Learning in MOOCs, 2019 edX Prize finalist.
Collaborations: Senior member of Open Learning’s Digital Learning Laboratory. Active in advancing digital education through interdisciplinary projects and institutional partnerships.
