Jessica Deitzer

Jessica Deitzer is an Assistant Professor at the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, University of Nebraska Omaha. She holds a Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland at College Park. Her research focuses on contextualizing criminal decision-making through self, social, and environmental factors, particularly examining how harsh and unpredictable environments influence short-term mindsets and criminal behavior. She employs both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. She is affiliated with the Jacobs Center for Productive Youth Development (University of Zurich) through the zIReN network, contributing to interdisciplinary research on delinquency and decision-making.

Her research interests include the temporal dynamics of choices, selection into situations, relationships, and contexts. She is associated with key institutions such as the Victimology and Victim Services Research Lab (VVRSL), Nebraska Collaborative for Violence Intervention and Prevention (NeCVIP), and the National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center (NCITE).
