Jessica Cox is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Linguistics at Franklin & Marshall College, serving as Co-chair of the Language Studies Council. She holds a Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics (Applied) from Georgetown University. Her research focuses on bilingualism, second language acquisition factors (e.g., working memory, study abroad experiences), and multilingual cognition in older adults, often collaborating with undergraduates. She teaches courses in Spanish language, linguistics, and psycholinguistics, emphasizing applied and interdisciplinary approaches.
Cox’s work bridges cognitive science and language education, with a particular interest in how individual differences influence language learning across the lifespan. She leads the Bilingualism Lab, exploring topics like codeswitching, bilingual memory, and aging learners. Her recent research addresses barriers to adult ESOL education and academic-community partnerships during pandemics.
Teaching responsibilities include intermediate Spanish courses (SPA 201/202/221), U.S. Spanish contexts (SPA 350), and English-language courses on linguistics (LIN 101, 205, 207) and interdisciplinary studies (CNX 177). Her scholarship has spanned topics from multilingualism in aging populations to psycholinguistic instruction methods for older adults.
