Dr. Jessica Bernard is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Texas A&M University, holding the Ella McFadden Endowed Professorship in Liberal Arts and an APS Fellow distinction. Her research focuses on the cerebellum’s role in motor and cognitive behaviors across the lifespan, with emphasis on aging, neuroimaging, and psychosis. She directs the Lifespan Cognitive and Motor Neuroimaging Laboratory.
Dr. Bernard completed her PhD at the University of Michigan (2012) and a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her work investigates cerebellar contributions to cognitive functions, age-related changes, and its role in psychiatric conditions like schizophrenia and psychosis. Key areas include cerebellar-cortical interactions, neuroplasticity through tDCS, and biomarkers for psychopathology progression.
Her research has explored cerebellar networks in Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and depression, alongside studies on motor dysfunction in clinical populations. She has published extensively on cerebellar structure-function relationships using advanced neuroimaging techniques. Awards include the APS Fellow recognition for contributions to psychological science.
Dr. Bernard currently supervises graduate students in neuroscience and cognitive psychology, accepting applications for 2024-2025. Her lab collaborates with the Institute for Neuroscience, focusing on translational research bridging basic science and clinical applications.
