Jessica Baldanzi is a Professor of English and Department Chair at Goshen College. She teaches courses in English, Writing, CORE, Women’s and Gender Studies, and Global Education, with a research specialty in comics and graphic novels. Her publications span poetry, flash memoir, blogs, and literary criticism.

Her research focuses on gender representation in graphic fiction, including her book Bodies and Boundaries: Female and Nonbinary Characters in Graphic Fiction (2024), and co-edited work on Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel (2020). She also explores creative writing and literary criticism through poetry and flash memoir in journals like Exposition Review and The Shore.
Jessica’s publications reflect interdisciplinary trends in comics studies, feminist critique, and cultural identity. She contributes to the field through her blog at commonscomics.com and collaborations with the Comics Studies Society.
Scientific awards and honors:
- Nominated for Best of the Net and the O’Henry Prize for her experimental fiction piece “Space Planning Proposal for My Brain.”
Grants and professional engagement: She has received multiple campus grants, including funding to attend the Indiana University Writers’ Conference (2025), prepare a class in Northern Ireland (2024), and present at the International Comic Arts Forum in Vancouver (2023). She is certified by the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program and the Association of Online and University Educators.
