Jessica Ann Hughes serves as Associate Professor of English and Chair of the Department of English, Languages, and Communication at George Fox University. Her academic career spans international teaching experiences in Budapest and Sydney, along with prior roles as visiting assistant professor at Wheaton College and head of English and Communication at Holy Cross College. She teaches specialized courses including Faith and Story, The Victorian Novel, and Post Colonial & Commonwealth Literature that examine religious faith's role in cultural formation.
Her research centers on the intersection of faith and 19th-century British literature, specifically analyzing how Victorian novels reshaped theological understandings of Jesus and the Bible's influence on literary production. Her scholarly work culminated in the book Jesus in the Victorian Novel: Reimagining Christ, which investigates how novelists presented Jesus as a historical figure through fictional narratives. She actively engages contemporary discourse through initiatives like the Eclectic Texts Conference exploring Taylor Swift as cultural phenomenon.
