Jessica Allison Holmes is an Associate Professor at the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies, University of Copenhagen. She co-chairs the Art & Health interdisciplinary research cluster and holds a ORCID for her work.
- Ph.D. in Historical Musicology, McGill University (2017)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship, UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music (2021)
Her research focuses on popular music studies, disability studies, and voice studies, with a particular interest in:
- Deaf ontologies in music and sound
- Gendered aesthetics of mental health in pop music
- Biomedical vs cultural definitions of depression and deafness
- Queer punk disability performance and embodiment
- Interdisciplinary teaching in musicology and cultural studies
Her publications span peer-reviewed journals and edited handbooks, exploring topics from Céline Dion's Vegas residencies to Christine Sun Kim's visual music. Current projects include a Visiting Professorship at Sorbonne University (Spring 2025) under the EU 4EU+ Alliance.
Notable awards include:

- Outstanding Teaching Award, McGill University (2017)
- Chancellor's Award for Postdoctoral Research, UCLA (2019/20)
She teaches courses on history of pop music, sound studies, and disability in music, while supervising theses on music and identity. Her upcoming work addresses deaf gain in EDM and depression in Gen Z pop.
