Jesse Thomas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Design at the University of Alberta, serving as Director of Undergraduate Programs and Coordinator of Painting. His office is located in Room 100 of the HUB building with contact number (780) 492-4911.
His educational background includes:
- MFA in Painting from Washington University in Saint Louis (2003)
- BFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1993)
Thomas specializes in Studio Art with primary focus on Painting and Drawing, currently collaborating with Moment Research in Edmonton to explore intersections of painting, sound, and interactive projections. His practice spans immersive multimedia installations like Entourer at the New Orleans Jazz Museum and extensive international solo exhibitions across Edmonton, St. Louis, Chicago, San Francisco, New Orleans, Berlin, and Zhengzhou University of Light Industry in China.
As Director of Undergraduate Programs, he shapes curriculum and academic direction for art students while leading the Painting program. His collaborative research with Moment Research demonstrates active engagement in funded interdisciplinary projects despite no specific grants being documented.
