Jesse Railo

Jesse Railo is an Associate Professor (Tenure Track) in Computational Engineering at the LUT School of Engineering Sciences, Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology, Finland. He is a Principal Investigator (PI) in the FAME Flagship (Advanced Mathematics for Sensing, Imaging, and Modelling) funded by the Research Council of Finland (2024–2031), a Fulbright Fellow (2025), and recipient of the Emil Aaltosen Säätiö project grant (2024). His academic journey includes a PhD from the University of Jyväskylä (2019), postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich (2020–2021) and University of Cambridge (2021–2023), and a recent promotion to tenure track in 2024.

Dr. Railo's research bridges inverse problems for PDEs, differential geometry, and harmonic analysis, with applications in medical imaging, engineering, and geophysics. His work focuses on nonlocal/fractional equations, Calderón problems, geodesic ray transforms, and stability estimates. He has developed methods for broken ray transforms, loop group factorization, and torus tomography, while advancing low-regularity theory and unique continuation properties for higher-order fractional operators.

His recent publications (2022–2025) explore nonlocal diffusion equations, twisted geodesic ray transforms, and stochastic inverse problems. Key collaborations include Gabriel Paternain, Mikko Salo, and Philipp Zimmermann. Dr. Railo has received multiple accolades, including the Finnish Inverse Prize (2020) and a research fellowship from the Vilho, Yrjö ja Kalle Väisälä Foundation. He mentors doctoral students in the FAME Flagship and leads projects funded by the Research Council of Finland.
