Jesse Q. Bond is an Associate Professor in the Biomedical & Chemical Engineering department at Syracuse University's College of Engineering and Computer Science. His research focuses on heterogeneous catalysis for renewable energy and environmental applications, particularly involving biomass conversion and selective oxidation reactions.
- Ph.D., Chemical and Biological Engineering, University of Wisconsin - Madison (2009)
- B.S., Chemical Engineering, Louisiana State University (2002)
Research interests center on catalytic mechanisms for renewable oxygenate conversion, solvent effects in catalytic reactions, and surface chemistry of metal oxides. His selected research grants include:
- National Science Foundation (2024-2027): Resolving contributions of lattice oxygen, acid/base sites in ketone oxidation
- Department of Energy (2021-2025): Alloy catalyst structure-activity relationships
- DOE/Worcester Polytechnic Institute (2021-2025): Sewage sludge to renewable natural gas
Recent publications examine:
- VOx/γ-Al2O3 catalysis for ketone oxidation (Journal of Catalysis, 2021)
- γ-Al2O3 esterification mechanisms under supercritical conditions (Fuel, 2021)
- Maleic anhydride selectivity in levulinic acid scission (ACS Catalysis, 2020)
- Hydrodeoxygenation of propionic acid on Pt(111) (Journal of Catalysis, 2020)
Teaching activities include graduate and undergraduate courses in chemical reaction engineering and kinetics. His professional service encompasses committee roles at the College of Engineering & Computer Science, AICHE Catalysis and Reaction Engineering Division (including diversity initiatives), and peer-review activities for over 20 journals and funding agencies from 2011-2020.
