Jesse A. Matheson

Jesse A. Matheson is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Sheffield, with prior academic appointments at the University of Leicester and the University of Calgary. He recently served as a CESifo Visiting Researcher in January 2024 to discuss his work on remote working's economic implications.

Professor Matheson's research spans public and labor economics with significant intersections into health and urban economics. His work examines how economic policies affect vulnerable populations and spatial economic organization. Notably, he has developed theoretical models of monocentric cities to analyze teleworking's impact on housing markets and urban structures, while also conducting field experiments on domestic violence interventions.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on contemporary economic challenges, particularly the post-pandemic shift toward remote work and its wide-ranging effects on labor markets, residential patterns, and urban economics.
