Jess Perlitz is an Associate Professor of Art, Studio Head of Sculpture, and Department Chair at Lewis & Clark College. She holds positions within the College of Arts & Sciences and contributes to interdisciplinary academic and artistic initiatives. Her work bridges sculpture, performance, and community-based projects, focusing on communication, ownership of space, and socio-political themes.
Education:
- MFA, 2009 – Tyler School of Art, Temple University
- BA, 2000 – Bard College
Research Interests: Perlitz explores Constructivism, Productivism, and contemporary monuments/memorials through sculpture and participatory art. Her practice emphasizes art’s social utility and utopian aspirations, often engaging public spaces and community collaboration.

Teaching & Advising: Teaches courses such as Sculpture I-III, Performance Art, Useful Art, and Monuments & Memorials. Advises senior art practice and junior seminars.
Labs/Projects: Co-led Portland’s Monuments & Memorials Project (year-long initiative). Her work has been exhibited at Socrates Sculpture Park, Cue Art Foundation, and the Institute of Contemporary Art (Philadelphia).
