Jesper Barth Bugten is a PhD Research Fellow in the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education at the University of Agder, Norway, actively contributing to sports science research with a focus on adolescent athletes and handball.
His research spans Sport Psychology, Youth Sports, and Physical Performance Assessment, examining how psychological factors like enjoyment and social interaction influence sports participation and development. Key interests include adolescent athlete development, handball-specific dynamics, and psychological assessment tools in sports contexts.
Recent publications reveal a strong trend in studying female handball players' daily experiences and sex/age performance differences in team sports, utilizing mixed-methods approaches combining psychological metrics with physical performance data to understand athlete development holistically.
Bugten is an active member of the SPADE research group (Sports Performance and Athlete Development Environments), which investigates training processes and performance development through longitudinal studies of adolescent athletes in competitive sports settings.
