Jerzy Muszyński

Dr. Jerzy Muszyński is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Painting and Drawing at Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznań, where he has been teaching since 2010. He currently leads the Studio of Painting in Architecture and Urban Planning alongside Professor Marek Jakuszewski, a position he has held since 2012. Previously, he co-led Drawing Studio XV with Professor Grzegorz Keczmerski from 2010-2012.

Muszyński earned his MFA in painting from Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznań in 2011 and completed his PhD in fine arts in 2019, with his doctoral exhibition "White Cube / Black Cube" at Rodriguez Gallery in Poznań. His artistic practice explores the intersection of image and object, the elusive and tangible, and the visible and sensed, focusing on the mystery of the world's presence and perception as a construct.

His work demonstrates a consistent exploration of spatial relationships and material presence, often eliminating the trace of his hand by using prefabricated materials and automated techniques. Recent projects like "Common Gestures" (2023-2024) and "Samo-loty" (2023-2026) reveal his ongoing interest in how art interacts with architectural environments and spatial perception. His exhibitions frequently employ materials such as steel, glass, mdf, and mixed media in precise geometric configurations.

His notable achievements include:

• A grant from the Creative Scholarship Program of the City of Poznań (2025)
• Finalist of the International Contest For Experiment In Visual Arts – ATTEMPT 5 (2024)
• Winner of the competition for a mural on The Deportations to the East (2013)
• Finalist of the national painting competition Nowy Obraz / Nowe Spojrzenie (2013)

Muszyński is also active in curatorial practice, co-managing Galeria Szewska 16 since 2020 and co-publishing "Risoteka / Risotheque" in 2023. His workshop activities, including community-based mosaic projects and educational programs at ZAMEK Culture Centre, demonstrate his commitment to art education and public engagement.
