Jerzy Axer

Jerzy Axer is a Professor at Warsaw University with a distinguished career in Classics & Oriental Studies. He has been a Professor ordinarius since 1986 and previously held the position of Professor extraordinarius from 1977. His academic work spans Latin studies, Neo-Latin studies, XVI-century diplomatic history, textology, theatrical studies, and classical traditions in European culture.

• Chairman of the Neo-Latin Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences since 1987
• President of the International Society for the History of Rhetoric (1999-2001)

Notable honors include the 1996 Order of Golden Phoenix from Greece and a 2003 honorary doctorate from Ivan Franko National University in Lviv, Ukraine. He is also a longstanding member of several international academic societies.
