Jerome Ramirez

Dr. Jerome Ramirez is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Bioprocess Engineering at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), within the Faculty of Engineering and the School of Mechanical, Medical & Process Engineering. He is affiliated with the Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy. His expertise spans chemical engineering, techno-economic analysis, biomass conversion, and sustainable technology development.

Education: He holds a PhD in Energy and Process Engineering from QUT and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of the Philippines - Diliman.

Research Interests:

• Modelling bioprocesses using biotechnology and synthetic biology
• Techno-economic and environmental impact assessments of new processing technologies
• Optimizing biomass feedstock supply for alternative proteins, sustainable aviation fuel, and precision fermentation products
• Process safety and compliance in food, fuel, and agricultural industries

Advising & Grants:

• Supervises PhD students in:
  • Modelling Thermochemical Conversions of Lignocellulosic Biomass with Machine Learning
  • Optimised Approaches in Scaling Precision Fermentation via Digital Twins
• Leads the "Building industry engagement capability for a diversified Australian sugarcane industry" project, funded by an Australian Competitive Grant (2023).

Labs/Teams: Active in the Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy, focusing on sustainable bioeconomy solutions.
