Jeroan Allison

Jeroan Allison is Professor and Chair of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences at UMass Chan Medical School. A physician-researcher, he develops interventions to reduce health disparities and improve care delivery.

Dr. Allison pioneers narrative-based interventions ('storytelling') to promote health behavior change. His NIH-funded research includes cluster-randomized trials testing culturally-adaptive hypertension control programs in Vietnam and community-engaged approaches to reduce disparities in perinatal depression care. As Co-Editor-in-Chief of Medical Care, he advances health services research methodology.

His publications demonstrate effective implementation strategies across diverse populations. Seminal work established storytelling's efficacy for hypertension management while recent trials evaluate multi-modal interventions for vulnerable populations.

Research integrates mixed methods to examine social determinants of health, including studies on trust in healthcare systems and medication adherence mechanisms.
