Dr. Jeremy Watkins is a Lecturer in Philosophy at the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics, Queen's University Belfast. He is affiliated with the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice. His research focuses on ethical questions related to past wrongs, forgiveness in divided societies, and the ethics of reparation. He also explores moral theory (moral luck, deontological ethics) and philosophy of law (international law).
Research interests include moral philosophy, transitional justice, legal philosophy, and philosophy for children. He actively supervises PhD students in these areas. Notable achievements include promoting philosophy education in Northern Irish primary schools and being elected Secretary of the Royal Institute of Philosophy (Belfast Branch) in 2009.
His publications analyze topics like retributive justice, forgiveness in post-conflict contexts, and the relationship between merit and punishment. He has received recognition for his contributions to ethical theory and international law discourse.
