Jeremy Smith is an Associate Professor in Sociology at the School of Arts, Federation University Australia. He has been teaching since 1996 and currently serves as a Research Advisor. His career includes leadership roles such as Deputy Head of School (2007-11), Associate Dean, Learning and Teaching (2011-2014), and Associate Dean Research (2019-2022).

His research focuses on Historical Sociology, Inter-civilizational Engagement, and Social Imaginaries, with expertise in state formation, capitalism, and urban development across long-term historical periods. He has authored monographs on topics such as Atlantic Modernity, Civilizational Analysis, and American Modernities, and co-edited collections promoting interdisciplinary dialogue.
Jeremy's recent publications explore themes in education, historical sociology, and civilizational theory, including collaborations on interdisciplinary learning and after-school community music programs. He supervises doctoral students in areas like terrorism, transformative learning, and economic thought.
