Jeremy Menchik is an Associate Professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, with faculty affiliations in Political Science and Religious Studies. His academic work focuses on the intersection of religion and politics, with regional expertise in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Dr. Menchik earned his Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his B.A. from the University of Michigan. His academic journey has positioned him as a leading scholar on religious organizations and political dynamics in Muslim-majority contexts.
His research interests span Comparative Politics, Religion and Politics, Southeast Asian Studies, and Middle Eastern Politics. Menchik's scholarly approach examines how religious organizations navigate democratic systems, with particular attention to Indonesia as the world's largest Muslim-majority democracy. His work investigates the complex relationship between religious authority, political participation, and democratic governance in diverse cultural contexts.
Menchik's publications reveal a consistent focus on religious organizations' role in democratic societies, with recent work examining digital transformation of religious authority, interfaith dynamics, and the political economy of religious education.
