Jeremy Cohen is an Advanced Research Fellow in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London, where he also serves as Director of Research Software Engineering Strategy. His primary affiliation is with the Faculty of Engineering. Cohen holds an EPSRC Research Software Engineering (RSE) Fellowship awarded in 2017. His research focuses on developing software tools and frameworks to enhance computational infrastructure utilization across scientific domains, emphasizing sustainability, maintainability, and equity in research software development. He leads the Imperial Research Software Engineering Community and founded RSLondon, a regional hub connecting over 20 institutions in research software engineering.
He earned both his MSc and PhD in Computing from Imperial College London, with prior work in e-Science middleware and grid computing. Cohen is an affiliate of the Research Computing Service team and a member of the Society of Research Software Engineering. His professional roles include advocating for policies that support quality research software and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers and software developers.
His publications emphasize HPC training pathways, RSE competency frameworks, and equity challenges in software communities. Recent work explores foundational competencies for RSEs and strategies for sustainable software ecosystems. Beyond research, Cohen actively contributes to policy discussions on institutional support for research software engineering.
