Jens-Uwe Guettel is an Associate Professor of History at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. He holds undergraduate degrees from Freie Universität Berlin and advanced degrees (MA, MPhil, PhD) in History from Yale University. His research focuses on intersections of U.S. and German imperialism, political scandals in the German Empire, National-Socialist expansionism, and urban politics in pre- and post-WWI Germany.
Current projects include a book analyzing opposition groups to the German Empire’s status quo before 1918 and street violence in German cities. His work has been supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities and includes publications in the Journal of Modern History, Central European History, and Journal of Genocide Research.

He co-advises graduate student Dalton Erskin and has explored themes of domestic impacts of colonialism, labor history, and comparative imperial studies between Germany and the United States.
