Prof. Dr. Jens Peter Laut (*1954) has been Professor of Turkology and Central Asian Studies at Georg-August-University Göttingen since 2008. Previously, he held professorships in Islamic Studies/Turkology at the University of Freiburg (1997-2008) and served in temporary roles there (1996-1997). His academic career spans editorial and organizational roles in orientalist institutions, including vice-presidency of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen (2016-2020) and leadership positions in projects like the Katalogisierung der orientalischen Handschriften in Deutschland (KOHD) and the Wörterbuch des Altuigurischen.

He explores language reforms in Turkey, Kemalist ideology, and modern Turkish literature, integrating philological analysis with historical contextualization. His work bridges Turkic studies, Islamic theology, and comparative linguistics.
