Jens Krause

Professor Jens Krause is a leading behavioral ecologist at the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) in Berlin, where he leads research in Department 4: Biology of Fish, Fisheries and Aquaculture. He also contributes to the interdisciplinary Cluster of Excellence Science of Intelligence (SCIoI) at Berlin's major universities.

His research program centers on collective behavior in animal groups, with particular expertise in how individual differences shape group decision-making and anti-predator mechanisms in fish populations. This work bridges fundamental behavioral ecology with practical applications in sustainable fisheries management and aquaculture systems.

As principal investigator for significant DFG-funded projects including 'The role of individual differences in collective behavior' and 'Mechanisms and functions of collective anti-predator behavior', he has established a robust research program examining group dynamics through experimental and field approaches.
