Jens Jahren is a Professor of Petroleum Geology at the University of Oslo's Department of Geosciences. He holds an academic position within the Section for Environmental Geosciences, specializing in post-depositional processes, sediment compaction, diagenesis, and reservoir geology. His expertise spans over 30 years of academic service, including roles as Associate Professor (1994-2013) and full Professor since 2013.
- Education: PhD in Geology (University of Oslo, 1991)
- Employment History:
- 2013–Present: Professor, University of Oslo
- 2003–2013: Associate Professor, University of Oslo
- 1994–2003: Associate Professor in Mineralogy, University of Oslo
Research Interests: Focuses on diagenetic processes, reservoir quality evolution, and geological CO₂ storage feasibility. Current projects include Trias North (Barents Sea basin reconstruction), BarRock (Barents Sea rock properties), and CO2SEAL (North Sea CO₂ storage sealing capacity evaluation). His work bridges sedimentology, tectonics, and applied reservoir characterization.
Publications: Over 100 peer-reviewed articles since 2000, emphasizing compaction mechanisms, diagenetic fluid interactions, and reservoir geology in basins like the Barents Sea and North Sea. Recent work explores CO₂ storage seal integrity and basin-scale tectonostratigraphic evolution.
