Dr. Jenny Zhou is a Senior Lecturer in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Monash University, affiliated with the Monash Energy Institute and Monash Art, Design, and Architecture. She holds a PhD from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and conducted postdoctoral research at the Berkeley Education Alliance for Research in Singapore (BEARS) and the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Architecture, Building, and Planning. Her research focuses on occupant-centric and resource-responsive built environments, addressing interactions between buildings, humans, and the natural environment. Key areas include indoor environmental quality, lifecycle analysis, and sustainable urban infrastructure.
Education: B.Eng and M.Eng (Environmental Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology); M.Sc (Human Computer Interaction, NTU); PhD (Environmental Engineering, NTU).
Research Interests: Indoor air quality, climate change impacts on buildings, wireless sensing networks, energy-efficient building standards (e.g., Passivhaus), bioaerosol fate, and renewable energy integration. She leads projects such as the 'Improvement of School Indoor Air Quality' and contributes to initiatives like the Building 4.0 CRC.
Scientific Recognition: Recipient of the Green Talents Award (Germany) and a fellowship from the Lloyd's Register Foundation. Collaborates internationally via the IEA EBC Annex 79 (Occupant-Centric Building Design) and other networks.
Teaching: Courses include ENE2021 (Energy and the Environment) and ENE3031 (Building Sustainability). Supervises PhD students exploring interdisciplinary topics in sustainable built environments.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Nature, Urban, and Human (NUH) Lab, advancing data-driven research in building performance and environmental health.
