Jenny Wong

Jenny Wong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Mount Allison University. Her research focuses on environmental chemistry, particularly the physiochemical properties and toxicity of atmospheric aerosol particles and their impacts on climate and human health. She combines laboratory experiments, field measurements, and analytical tool development to address questions about aerosol behavior and the effectiveness of air quality regulations. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches integrating analytical, physical, and biological chemistry with toxicology.

Wong leads a research group committed to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment. The group actively encourages participation from underrepresented backgrounds. Recent group highlights include Rin a Takai’s MSc degree and Rice Fellowship award, Makayla Churchill and Heath Patterson’s Independent Study Research Grants, and Zoë Lindensmith’s Best Oral Presentation award at Chem Conn 2024. The group also engages in collaborative activities like axe-throwing and pottery painting to build team cohesion.

Her research projects explore aerosol-cloud interactions, biomass burning impacts, and 3D printer emissions. She mentors undergraduate and graduate students through thesis research, independent studies, and summer projects. Current opportunities include CHEM4990 Honours Thesis work and MSc degrees in Chemistry with direct mentorship. The group emphasizes hands-on training and provides competitive stipends supplemented by external scholarships like ResearchNB awards.
