Jenny Suckale is an Associate Professor of Geophysics at Stanford University and a Senior Fellow, by courtesy, at the Woods Institute for the Environment. Her research focuses on reducing disaster risk through interdisciplinary approaches that combine mathematical modeling with observational data and community-driven scientific co-production.
- Education: Ph.D. in Geophysics from MIT (2011), MPA from Harvard Kennedy School (2006), M.Sc. in Physics (with Distinction) from Freie Universität Berlin (2002).
Her group investigates extreme events across multiple natural systems, including volcanic eruptions, ice-sheet instability, permafrost disintegration, induced seismicity, and flood-risk mitigation. This work aims to identify common physical processes and risk-reduction strategies applicable across diverse hazards.
Scientific awards include:
- Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers
- CAREER award from the National Science Foundation
