Jenny Lönnroth is an Associate Professor in the Department of Culture and Media Studies at Umeå University, Sweden. Her office is located at Humanisthuset, Biblioteksgränd 3 (main entrance) in Umeå (postal code 901 87), with contact email jenny.lonnroth@umu.se and phone +46 90 786 71 38.
Her research spans interdisciplinary investigations into media representations of climate change, gender dynamics, and migration. She examines how weather conditions and outdoor work are portrayed in Swedish media, analyzing risk discourses and climate anxiety narratives. Her work extends to representations of nursing homes during heatwaves, Muslim motherhood in Sweden, refugee support systems shaping kinship networks, and tourism imagery in Gotland brochures. This research bridges media studies, environmental sociology, and cultural anthropology through critical analysis of public discourses and identity formation.
Analysis of her publications (2006-2025) reveals a clear trajectory: early work focused on gender strategies in cross-cultural marriages and Muslim women's narratives, while recent research intensifies on climate-media intersections. Current studies examine climate anxiety framing, heatwave impacts on elderly care, and weather-risk discourse legitimization, demonstrating consistent engagement with societal vulnerabilities through cultural and media lenses. Her methodology combines discourse analysis with ethnographic approaches across environmental, health, and migration contexts.
