Jennifer Wolak is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at Michigan State University. Her research focuses on political behavior in the American context, emphasizing political psychology, public opinion, gender dynamics, and state politics. She earned her PhD in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004 and previously taught at the University of Colorado Boulder before joining MSU in 2021. Her work examines how individual psychological traits like self-confidence, empathy, and personality influence political engagement and decision-making. Wolak has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles and a book, Compromise in an Age of Party Polarization (Oxford UP, 2020), which explores legislative negotiation strategies in polarized environments. Her research also addresses state-level governance, including gubernatorial accountability and public trust in state institutions. She has been awarded grants from the National Science Foundation to study political learning and campaign strategies.
