Jennifer Whyte serves as Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London and holds the Laing O’Rourke/Royal Academy of Engineering Professorship in Systems Integration. She directs the Centre for Systems Engineering and Innovation and leads major research initiatives including the Transforming Construction Network Plus and the Alan Turing Institute/Lloyds Register Foundation Data Centric Engineering Programme.
Her educational foundation includes a PhD from Loughborough University completed approximately 20 years ago. Professor Whyte's research expertise centers on systems integration, digital engineering, and production systems specifically applied to construction and built environment challenges, emphasizing data-driven approaches to transform engineering practices and infrastructure delivery.
Her significant honors include:
- Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
- Shimizu Visiting Professor at Stanford University (2015)
Professor Whyte has secured extensive research funding over her career and leads multidisciplinary teams across major projects including co-curation of the World Economic Forum Engineering and Construction Transformation Map. Her advisory influence spans the Transforming Construction Advisory Group, EPSRC Engineering Strategic Advisory Team, and Digital Framework Task Group.
She recently contributed to national policy through the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government Industry Safety Steering Group, demonstrating ongoing commitment to industry safety standards and regulatory advancement.
