Jennifer Sierra is a President's and Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Her educational background includes:

- Ph.D. in Linguistic Anthropology from the University of Michigan
Dr. Sierra's research focuses on the intersection of digital media technologies and indigenous communities in the Peruvian Amazon, specifically examining the Shipibo-Konibo people's engagement with digital platforms. Her work investigates sociocultural barriers, technological accessibility, and identity preservation in digital spaces, revealing critical tensions between traditional lifeways and modern connectivity.
She has received the prestigious President's and Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship, recognizing her innovative contributions to linguistic anthropology.
Under the mentorship of Professor Mary Bucholtz at UC Santa Barbara, her research program explores decolonial approaches to technology adoption while maintaining rigorous ethnographic methodologies. Current projects examine mobile media usage patterns and digital storytelling practices within Amazonian communities.
