Dr. Jennifer Pinkerton is a Lecturer in Media and Journalism at Charles Darwin University's Faculty of Arts and Society, Humanities and Social Sciences. She is an established journalist and author with expertise in longform and environmental journalism, focusing on climate change reporting and solutions journalism. Her research aims to enhance journalism's capacity to facilitate informed decision-making and address environmental challenges.
Pinkerton holds a Doctor of Creative Arts from the University of Technology Sydney (2019) and is a member of the Sydney Environment Institute, Journalism Education and Research Association of Australia, and Nordic Forum for Social Responsibility in Journalism.
Her primary research interests include environmental journalism, climate change communication, solutions journalism, Indigenous affairs reporting, and narrative non-fiction. Recent publications examine the impact of COVID-19 on journalists, Indigenous land rights controversies, human-wildlife conflicts, and the evolution of modern relationships.
Pinkerton supervises postgraduate research projects on environmental non-fiction, climate change writing, and solutions journalism. She leads the 'Borderlands The Voice issue' project exploring First Nations perspectives and coordinates academic exchanges focused on storytelling and truth-telling in the Northern Territory.
