Jennifer Perry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Canada. Her research focuses on evolutionary conflicts shaping animal phenotypes, particularly in insects, with emphasis on sexual conflict, diet preferences, and climate change impacts. She leads a dynamic lab studying behaviors, morphology, and molecular adaptations in species like fruit flies and water striders. Perry's work integrates field and lab experiments, leveraging metabolomic and genetic approaches.
Her lab actively recruits PhD, MSc, and undergraduate researchers, emphasizing topics such as sexual arms races in water striders and ladybird responses to invasive species/climate change. Funded by NSERC and Nova Scotia Museums, her group collaborates with institutions like the Royal Horticultural Society and the University of Valencia. Perry transitioned to StFX in 2022 from the University of East Anglia, bringing expertise in evolutionary ecology and a focus on interdisciplinary projects.
Recent studies include investigating how mating influences diet choices in fruit flies and analyzing population genetics of water striders. Perry co-supervises international students and has mentored over a dozen researchers, many advancing to academic roles. Her lab's location in Nova Scotia offers unique field opportunities, combining coastal ecosystems with collaborative academic environments.
