Jennifer Penner is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Hendrix College. She holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.A. from the University of Oklahoma. Her research focuses on comparative psychology and animal behavior, particularly food caching strategies in small mammals and human mating dynamics. She teaches courses such as Comparative Animal Behavior, Evolution of Human Sexuality, and Evolutionary Psychology.
Dr. Penner conducts fieldwork in diverse locations, including the Ozark Mountains, Costa Rica, and Utah. Her studies investigate pilfering behaviors in squirrels, chipmunks, and agoutis, as well as evolutionary perspectives on mate choice and jealousy in humans. She leads a field course in Costa Rica, emphasizing tropical ecology and conservation.
Her work integrates behavioral observations with ecological contexts, exploring how animals adapt to environmental challenges. Publications span animal behavior conferences and journals, with a focus on caching dynamics and evolutionary psychology themes.
