Jennifer L Van Reet is a Professor of Psychology at Providence College. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Virginia (2008) and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Texas (2002). Her research focuses on developmental psychology, particularly children's pretend play, theory of mind, executive function, and ontological reasoning. She has led six NIH-funded grants exploring topics like toddlers' understanding of pretense and cognitive representation development.
Dr. Van Reet’s work emphasizes how contextual factors and cognitive processes influence imaginative behaviors in young children. Her recent studies examine causal reasoning in pretend scenarios, moral reasoning transfer in play contexts, and the role of inhibitory control in pretend quality.
