Jennifer Jonason, Ph.D., serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Her research focuses on signaling mechanisms governing mesenchymal stem cell differentiation and skeletal development, particularly in chondrocytes and osteoblasts. She combines genetic mouse models with molecular biology techniques to study bone and joint development and osteoarthritis progression.
- Ph.D., Yale University (Genetics, 2006)
- B.S., Otterbein College (Molecular Biology, 1999)
The Jonason laboratory investigates pathways like NF-κB, BMP, and β-catenin in skeletal development and cartilage maintenance. Research includes the role of TAK1 in growth plate development, PGE2 receptor signaling in bone repair, and RUNX2 regulation in osteoarthritis.
Her publications span topics including fracture healing, tendon repair, and metabolic regulation of cartilage degeneration. Awards include the Young Investigator Travel Award and National Research Service Award.
- Young Investigator Travel Award (2011)
- Forum on Metabolic Bone Disease Travel Award (2008)
- National Research Service Award (2007-2010)
- Outstanding Senior Research Project (1999)
Dr. Jonason's work is funded through institutional and competitive grants, and she collaborates with the Center for Musculoskeletal Research.
